Boost Immunity

There are many, many ways of boosting our immune systems - but which one to choose and when can be a confusing thing. The first thing we have to understand is that we are treating the body, not the disease we are told we have.

While the world has exploded with an anti-germ campaign - one that wishes to eradicate any germ anywhere, I always wondered how beneficial it could be to never allow our immune systems to be exposed to things. If something major comes along, our immune systems may not be aware of how to fight such an invader - surely some immune system practice is in order! We don't want to expose ourselves to too many things (like antibiotics)for too long though as the effects are far reaching and difficult to track. We simply want wellness.

So avoiding germs altogether, accepting every new vaccination on the market and overusing hand sanitizer may not be the greatest solution to germs.......so what can we do?

1.> Give the immune system what it needs nutritionally and it will work for you. Garlic, onions and many other fruits and veggies serve as antifungals, anti-bacterials and astringents. The immune system needs us!

2.> Avoid germy places. Sometimes this is easier said than done. For example, our daughter attended daycare for a few years and we couldn't avoid the germs. They always came home and we felt like we were always sick. Later we realized that had we followed the rules for #1 (above), our immune systems could have fought off whatever always knocked us flat. We used to literally be sick every couple of weeks. Now, I haven't had a cold or flu in over 5 years.

3.> Being overweight. The body has to work so much harder when we carry around extra weight. Maintaining a healthy weight will keep our immune system working for us instead of against us will keep us in balance within our bodies. Having this balance between mind, body & spirit creates an energy for life!

4.> If you head to a local gym, be sure to clean the equipment before you use it! Other people may not be as courteous, and leftover body toxins are no fun - especially if it leads to the spread of something nasty. Also be sure to clean the equipment again before you leave it - or you just became 'that person.'

5.> Take a probiotic;  a probiotic is a pro-life (pro-YOU) supplement to our tummies. We all have bacteria in our guts and what we eat and drink determines what we feed; ourselves or the bad bacteria. Interestingly, if you think of 'anti-biotic' then......it is anti-life and kills everything in our tummy. We want the good bacteria to stay where it is, flourish and help us to be regular, happy and healthy - so we take the PRO-biotic.

6.> Relax and spend some time on yourself. Stress and exhaustion help no one on the way to wellness. We have to ensure that we take care of our own minds, bodies and spirits along the way. The great bonus to that is that every system in our body flourishes - I'm certain this is why they say 'Laughter is the best medicine.'

All of these techniques are merely scratching the surface at the ways we can assist our immune systems in keeping us as healthy as we can be.

Always moving forward, we take one day at a time and remain aware of how our body works.

Rock your day!
