An At Home Spa Day

Where I live, it’s not impossible to drive the two and a half hours to get a full fledged spa treatment, but it doesn’t make the intention of relaxing any easier. Instead of focusing on what I couldn’t do, I focused on the things I could accomplish – right in my own home!

Massage: This is first and foremost on my list! I love a good massage. Like day old pizza (made with a spelt crust, of course) – it’s even good when it’s bad. If anything works to get rid of muscle tension, it’s a massage.

Foot massages are great because it helps improve circulation and ‘working’ the skin keeps things like our lymph systems active. Back massages relieve tension and clear the mind. Have you ever tried massaging someone’s calves? Hilarious! It’s so hard for me not to giggle…..

Hint:  Never, ever discount a good hand massage.  We use our hands for everything! They deserve a good relaxation massage too!

Epsom Salt Bath:  What a great body detoxifier and muscle relaxer!
We add about 2 cups of Epsom salts to our bathwater and you can feel the stress dissolve.

Coconut Oil Hair Treatments: Instead of spending money on those hot oil treatments that leave your hair feeling questionable, discover new and healthy ways to improve your silky doo! I use warmed coconut oil!

I remember the shampoo and conditioner commercials from way back when I had television. I always picked up on the ‘leaves your hair looking and feeling healthier’. I didn’t want healthier looking hair, I wanted healthier hair. I didn’t think it was too much to ask.

Bentonite Facial Masques: Bentonite Hydrated Healing Clay. I speak of this in my book, The Fat Girl Now 50% Lighter. It has become a standard item in our home and the uses of this stuff is truly phenomenal.

Basically, Bentonite is a grayish liquid. It tastes like dirt or clay – but that’s because it is. It is used in detox plans and it is what I used to jump start my wellness program. The job it has is to go through our system (thanks to all the water we drink with it) and grab onto toxins and yuck, removing it for us via our colons.

If you have ever used bentonite to detox, you know what I mean when I say that the end result can be a ‘big deal.’ ;)

I also use bentonite for skin. It makes a great clay masque – and it contains no yucky things that make me feel bad about putting it on my face. It cleanses, kills anything from viruses to bacterias and feels incredible! I pamper myself by drawing a steaming hot bath, apply a bentonite mask and relax. Ideally, someone is massaging my hands at this point – but that doesn’t always happen. Either way – it is dreamy.

Lemon Water: While we detox, enjoy an at home spa day or decide to just sit around, a glass of lemon water is a terrific idea for wellness! I always start by letting people know that lemon water helps with weight loss. That’s usually all I need to say, but the truth is that there is so much more to lemon water.

It detoxifies our systems, hydrates, cleanses and repairs. I drink anywhere from 3-4 glasses of lemon water a day. The rest is lemon-less water, but I found that too much of a good thing can be bad too. Heartburn from drinking lemon water means you are getting too much of it.

Our at home spa days cost pennies next to all of the financial commitments required to set up a professional visit. I also know that all of the products I use with my family are healthy and natural.

I love my at home spa days. The phones and computer are turned off, the relaxing music is turned on and we relax. We refresh ourselves and reset our minds, bodies and souls to live another day with a positive outlook.
