10 Reasons to Drink More Water

When I first realized how critical water was, I was 33 years old. I knew about water - how boring it tasted and why I avoided it. Why would I choose water when there are so many other amazing flavors out there? Carbonated beverages over water? Every single time! We live, and hopefully we stay alive long enough to learn. I am exceptionally grateful for the lessons.

The whole water thing really hit me like a tidal wave (har, har) when I heard that Alzheimer's is a dis-ease of dehydration. I was shocked and had to know more.

I learned that our brains weigh 3 pounds when properly hydrated. This allows for all of electrical impulses and neurotransmitters to fire and do that amazing stuff we know nothing about.....yet it can't accomplish much without the water. It's like gasoline for cars. We can't go without it.

When our brains are dehydrated, they weigh 10 ounces or less. Not much can be accomplished when we are without our basic needs, and water is a crucial basic need for simple brain function.

I also learned that when treating Alzheimer's, patients are receiving forms of diuretics. The 'lingo' got me for awhile, but I eventually connected the two - a diuretic gets rid of our water.

OK, enough of that - on to the information! Here is how to calculate how much water our bodies need every single day. Go grab a tall glass of water - and enjoy your day!
